Everybody knows about horseracing in Dubai. After Ireland many class it as horse racings second home.

There is a very close affinity with Ireland and Dubai, and the Sheik has horses in both countries and very good relationships with trainers in the United Kingdom.

It is illegal to bet in Dubai, however a day at the races cannot be missed, and you will be amazed at the prices available to you as a visitor to the racecourse. There are draws after races and you may be lucky enough to win a car or even a home! And of course there is the fun that goes with the thundering of the hoofs and the elation when your horse wins.

Dubai hosts the richest horse race in the world and this is shown all over the world.

Nad Al Sheba Racecourse

Horseracing in Dubai is featured at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. It has two left handed flat racing courses. One a turf track and the other a dirt track that surrounds it. The most famous race takes place on the 31st March 2007 and that is the Dubai gold cup with six million US dollars going to the winner. The total prize money for this one days racing is a staggering 21million US dollars.

Other than the gold cup, racing takes place every Thursday evening up until the 31st March and features a series of races over different distances ranging from 1,200 metres to 2,000 metres.

General admission to the race track is free and allows access to the millennium terrace where snacks and soft drinks may be purchased. On level 5 of the millennium grandstand there is lounge known as the Gainsborough lounge. Access here costs Dhs75-85 and alcoholic drinks may be purchased in this area.

There is also a restaurant known as the millennium views where three course meals can be purchased. Alternatively, there is a four course table d’hote menu available in the Dubai restaurant on level 3.

Along with top class racing there is a huge range of hospitality options and glamorous events surrounding the festivals. The Nad Al Sheba Racecourse is as good if not better than Royal Ascot or Glorious Goodwood in the UK. A must for horseracing lovers everywhere.

Meydan

Meydan is a brand new area being built on the grounds of Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. This amazing development comprises 3 separate areas. A brand new racecourse which will be known as Meydan Racecourse with a worldclass grandstand enabling over 60,000 people to view this magnificent course. There will be a brand new luxury 5* Hotel and more than 10 restaurants, and parking for over 10,000 cars.
